Netflix brings us Swapped, an all-new buddy comedy helmed by Tangled director Nathan Greno. The film is produced by animation heavyweights John Lasseter, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Mary Ellen Bauder Andrews, and features a script shaped by an impressive team of writers including John Whittington, Adam Karp, Christian Magalhaes, Robert Snow, and Greno himself.
At the heart of Swapped is an imaginative and humorous premise: a small woodland creature, voiced by Michael B. Jordan, and a majestic bird, voiced by Juno Temple, are natural-born rivals in the mysterious Valley. But when an unexpected twist causes them to swap bodies, the unlikely pair must set aside their instincts and their longstanding feud to survive an epic journey through a sprawling and unpredictable wilderness. Forced to literally walk in each other’s feathers and fur, they discover that navigating the wild is nothing compared to understanding one another.
Greno describes the film as “an unpredictable, emotional ride — full of humor, spectacle, and heart.” He notes that the creative team drew inspiration from live-action nature documentaries, embracing the untamed beauty and intricate dynamics of real ecosystems to bring a sense of authenticity and scale to the project. According to the director, Jordan and Temple’s performances elevate the film’s emotional core: “Every moment between them feels alive funny one second, deeply moving the next. Their chemistry lifts the story and gives Swapped its wings.”
