HBO is doubling down on the world of Westeros. During a press presentation in New York City, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, confirmed a multi-year expansion of the network’s “Game of Thrones” franchise renewing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and House of the Dragon through 2028. Both series will continue to air on HBO and stream on HBO Max, solidifying the Targaryen-ruled realm as one of the network’s most enduring powerhouses.

The upcoming half-hour drama A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms an intimate, character-driven journey into the friendship of Dunk and Egg, has secured a second season ahead of its series premiere on Sunday, January 18 at 10 PM ET/PT. Fans won’t have to wait long for more: Season 2 is slated for 2027, signaling HBO’s clear confidence in its newest Westerosi tale.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon continues to be the crown jewel of the franchise. The series’ third season will arrive in summer 2026, and before fans see even a frame of it, HBO has already renewed the show for a fourth season, planned for 2028. The Dance of the Dragons is far from over, and according to the network, some of the saga’s most explosive storytelling is still ahead.

Francesca Orsi, EVP of HBO Programming, emphasized just how committed the network is to the world George R.R. Martin created. “We are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years,” she said, noting the “expansive and richly imagined” universe that continues to captivate audiences. She teased an “inspiring underdog tale” in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and promised that House of the Dragon will “ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.”

Both series bring formidable casts and creative teams. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms features Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, with George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker serving as co-creators. House of the Dragon — based on Martin’s Fire & Blood — returns with its acclaimed ensemble including Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, and Steve Toussaint, under showrunner Ryan Condal.
