Paramount and Legendary have finally unleashed the first trailer for Street Fighter<\/a><\/em>, and in true Street Fighter<\/em> cinematic tradition\u2026 it is an absolute, glorious mess. A beautiful disaster, if you will one that suggests this new installment is proudly ready to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the franchise\u2019s chaotic, campy, and undeniably beloved cult-classic predecessors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Set in 1993, the film follows estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo<\/a>), two warriors whose bromance-turned-rivalry gets reignited when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament. What follows, according to the trailer, is a bombastic flurry of Hadoukens, roundhouse kicks, slow-motion glares, questionable hair choices, and enough neon-splashed grit to power a late-night cable marathon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But beneath the over-the-top action lies something deeper at least, that\u2019s what the booming trailer voiceover wants us to believe. A deadly conspiracy looms over the tournament, one that threatens to pit Ryu and Ken not just against the world\u2019s fiercest fighters, but also against each other. And if they fail? Well, as the trailer reminds us with all the subtlety of a button-mashing rookie: It\u2019s GAME OVER.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director Kitao Sakurai, best known for blending chaotic visuals with offbeat humor, seems determined to crank the dial past eleven. The trailer promises a film that\u2019s aggressively stylized, tonally unhinged, and possiblycjust possibly aware of exactly what it is. This isn\u2019t prestige cinema. This is arcade energy distilled into two hours of cinematic madness. And honestly? That might be its superpower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
